The simple answer is because more and more people – inside and outside the church – are “broken.”
Marriages are failing. Pornography enslaves both men and women and the scars of physical, sexual and emotional abuse rob people of intimacy with God and others. Over fifty percent of young adults moving into marriage and family life grew up in broken homes themselves and have few role models to look up to. Depression is on the rise as is suicide and soft core addictions like food, workaholisam, TV, cyber-sex, fantasy sports and relationships. Over twenty percent of women attending our churches today have terminated a pregnancy.
These ARE the issues the people in our churches are dealing with every day and if we attempt to reach out to our communities, the challenge becomes even greater.
Jesus once exhorted His disciples to open their eyes and see that the spiritual harvest of souls was plentiful…in other words, people were ready to receive the good news of Jesus Christ and follow Him. Today, the harvest is again plentiful, but it is also very “broken.” So how do we disciple a broken harvest? What are the ministry strategies we have to deal with some of the above issues? What strategies is your church using and how effective are they?

At his core, Ken [author of FS] is a pastor and strongly believes in equipping Christ-followers to minister healing and freedom on your behalf.
Your role as a pastor/church leader is to find a program you trust that protects your volunteers from getting in over their heads. Then begin to send people you are counseling, those preparing for marriage or going through a divorce. Most importantly, ask a few authentic and relatively healthy people to help lead a small group of 6-9 participants through the program and watch them come alive themselves. We have taken entire church leadership teams through FS and the results have been amazing.
